Defined terms used in these Repair Terms & Conditions have the meanings set out in the shared Lightning Tech definitions unless the context requires otherwise.
2. Acceptance
A Customer accepts these terms when booking online, ticking an acceptance checkbox, approving work by email, SMS, Messenger, Facebook, phone or electronic signature, dropping off a Device, approving an on-site repair, paying a deposit or otherwise authorising Lightning Tech to inspect, diagnose, quote or repair a Device.
Acceptance of these terms does not exclude, restrict or modify any non-excludable rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
4. Customer Responsibilities
The Customer must provide accurate contact details, Device model, repair description, known fault history, previous repair information, water damage information and any relevant access or safety information.
- Back up all data before repair.
- Remove SIM cards, memory cards, cases and accessories unless requested.
- Tell Lightning Tech about known liquid damage, impact damage, aftermarket parts and previous repairs.
- Keep contact details up to date while the Device is with Lightning Tech.
5. Pre-Repair Inspection
Lightning Tech may inspect and record the Device condition before repair. Testing may include display, touch, Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint, cameras, speaker, microphone, charging, buttons, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, battery, cosmetic damage, liquid indicators, frame condition and internal condition after opening.
Photos may be taken before, during and after repair for documentation, quality control, warranty assessment and dispute reduction.
If a Device cannot power on, cannot be unlocked, is severely damaged or cannot be safely tested, Lightning Tech may record that the condition could not be fully verified.
6. Data Backup & Device Access
Customers are solely responsible for backing up data. Lightning Tech does not guarantee preservation of photos, contacts, messages, applications, documents, settings or other user data.
Where a passcode, PIN or password is provided, Lightning Tech will use it only for diagnostic and post-repair testing and will not intentionally access personal content unrelated to the repair.
Customers may decline to provide a passcode. If access is declined, Lightning Tech may be unable to verify all repaired functions.
7. Estimates & Quotations
Website prices, instant quotes and preliminary advice are estimates unless expressly confirmed as a final quotation. Estimates may change if the model is incorrect, additional faults are discovered, previous repair damage exists, liquid damage is identified, parts become unavailable or extra work is required.
Lightning Tech will seek Customer approval before performing additional chargeable repairs wherever reasonably practicable.
If job details such as the Device model, repair type, part grade or selected work are corrected after booking, Lightning Tech may reprice the job using its then-current repair catalogue. A lower or unchanged total may be recorded immediately; an increased total or materially changed scope must be communicated to and approved by the Customer before the additional chargeable work proceeds.
8. Replacement Parts
Lightning Tech may offer Incell LCD, Premium Soft OLED, Original Quality, Service Pack, aftermarket batteries and other compatible components depending on Device model and availability.
- Brightness, colour, touch feel, battery reporting, compatibility, finish and durability may differ between grades.
- Manufacturer messages, unknown-part warnings or calibration limits may appear after repair.
- Lightning Tech does not represent aftermarket parts as genuine manufacturer-authorised parts unless expressly stated.
9. Repair Process
Lightning Tech will perform authorised repair work with reasonable care and skill. Some repairs involve elevated risk where a Device has liquid damage, bent frames, swollen batteries, severe impact damage, missing components, damaged connectors, motherboard faults or previous poor repairs.
Some faults cannot reasonably be identified until the Device is opened or tested. If repair becomes commercially impractical, Lightning Tech will advise the Customer before proceeding further wherever practicable.
10. Water Resistance
Factory water resistance cannot be guaranteed after opening, repairing, heating, resealing or disassembling any Device. Customers should keep repaired Devices away from liquid, moisture, steam, heavy rain and wet environments.
11. Manufacturer Warranty
Repair by Lightning Tech may affect a manufacturer's warranty, trade-in assessment, insurance assessment or future manufacturer repair eligibility. Lightning Tech cannot determine or control future decisions by Apple, Samsung, Google, Oppo or any other manufacturer.
12. Warranty
Lightning Tech provides a voluntary repair warranty in addition to rights available under the ACL. Standard repairs are covered for 3 months. Original Quality and Service Pack repairs are covered for 6 months unless otherwise stated.
- The warranty covers defects in workmanship and defective parts supplied by Lightning Tech.
- The warranty does not cover accidental damage, liquid damage, impact damage, misuse, unauthorised modification, third-party repair, normal wear and tear, software issues unrelated to the repair or customer-caused damage.
- Warranty claims may require inspection before approval.
13. Diagnostics, Payment & Special Orders
Lightning Tech may charge a diagnostic fee. The current standard diagnostic fee is AUD $50.00 and covers technician time. It is payable even where repair is declined, uneconomical or parts are unavailable.
Payment is due upon completion unless otherwise agreed. Deposits may be required for special-order parts, non-stock components or custom repair work.
Where permitted by applicable law, card-scheme rules and Lightning Tech's merchant agreement, a card payment surcharge may apply. Any surcharge will be disclosed before payment, will not exceed Lightning Tech's documented cost of accepting the applicable payment method, and will not be charged unless a surcharge-free payment method is reasonably available and clearly identified. The rate and total payable shown at checkout apply to that transaction.
If Lightning Tech refunds all of the underlying card payment, it will also refund the related card surcharge. For a partial refund of the underlying payment, the refundable surcharge will be calculated proportionately and will not exceed the surcharge originally paid, except where a different outcome is required by law.
Special Orders are governed by the Special Order & Deposit Policy.
14. On-site Repairs, Storage & Removed Parts
On-site Services are governed by the On-site Service Policy and may depend on service area, travel time, technician availability, safety, parking, access and suitable work environment.
Lightning Tech requests the call-out fee only after the appointment is confirmed. The Customer may cancel without a call-out charge until one hour before the agreed appointment window begins. After that deadline, the call-out fee is non-refundable where the Customer cancels, is unavailable or cannot provide access, except where a refund is required by law.
Completed repairs include one month of complimentary storage. Uncollected Devices may be handled in accordance with applicable Western Australian uncollected goods legislation after required notices are given.
Unless requested before repair, removed parts become Lightning Tech property. Hazardous batteries and unsafe components may not be returned where disposal or safety requirements apply.
15. Liability, ACL & Governing Law
To the extent permitted by law, Lightning Tech is not liable for indirect or consequential loss including loss of income, business interruption, loss of profits, loss of opportunity, third-party costs or loss of data beyond obligations imposed by law.
Our goods and services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. These terms operate alongside statutory rights and do not replace or limit them.
These terms are governed by the laws of Western Australia. If a provision is invalid or unenforceable, it is read down or severed to the extent necessary, and the remaining provisions continue.
